Chosen and Called: Lessons from Ephesians
As I was listening to a podcast on learning how to hear God’s voice, I kept feeling nudged to finish reading the book of Ephesians. Over and over, the message was clear. So, I finally sat down and finished it, and I am so glad I did. Not only did I finish it, but I went back and reread the entire book because it spoke to me in ways I desperately needed. Ephesians provided the best advice on the very subjects I had been praying about, and I’m excited to share the key lessons I took away with you.

Key Takeaways from Ephesians
- We Are Chosen by God
Ephesians reminds us that we are chosen by God to follow the purpose of His will. It’s a humbling thought to know that our lives are intentionally woven into His greater plan. When we align our choices with His purpose, we find peace and direction that only He can provide. - Grace Saves Us
One of the most powerful truths in Ephesians is that we are saved by grace through faith. It’s not our works or efforts but God’s boundless love and mercy that rescue us. When we embrace this grace, we can let go of guilt and step into freedom. - Strengthened by the Spirit
God’s Spirit is within us, strengthening and guiding us as we navigate life. This strength isn’t just for the monumental challenges but for the everyday battles, helping us stay true to who He created us to be. - Walk in the Light
Ephesians calls us to step out of darkness and into the light of Jesus Christ. It’s a daily choice to live fully and presently, trusting God with our relationships, decisions, and future. - Put on the Full Armor of God
We’re reminded that the only way to beat the Devil is by wearing the full armor of God. This includes truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation, and the Spirit’s sword—all essential for standing firm against spiritual challenges.
Living Out These Lessons
The book of Ephesians challenged me to reflect on my life and make some changes. It taught me that:
- Trusting God Brings Peace: Instead of overthinking or giving in to worry, I’m learning to trust that He has already paved the way.
- Life in Christ Requires Sacrifice: Following Jesus means leaving behind my old ways, no matter how comfortable they might feel. It’s a cost worth paying to live a life aligned with His will.
- Love Leads the Way: I want to lead with love, spreading it to those around me. Breaking free from bad habits that keep me trapped in sin starts with embracing God’s love and sharing it with others.
- Community Matters: Surrounding myself with people who also strive to be more like God keeps me accountable and encourages me to grow in faith.

Stepping Forward in Faith
I have always wanted to be a light to others, and Ephesians reassures me that the only way to step out of darkness is by walking into the light of Jesus Christ. This journey isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. Trusting the Lord with my life and relationships instead of worrying about the “what-ifs” brings a peace I can’t find anywhere else.
As I pray about my next steps—in life and relationships—Ephesians reminds me to trust God’s timing and His plan. I’m learning to lean into His strength and let Him guide my path, breaking free from old habits and stepping into the life He’s called me to live.
